In the island kingdom of Bahrain, the 20th century has been characterised by remarkable strides in the spheres of economic and social development. But what is less well known is that these advances have been paralleled by remarkable artistic achievements.
Relative to its size, Bahrain has produced an inordinate number of outstanding artists. “Abbas Al-Mosawi and the Colours of Bahrain” chronicles this development. By focusing on one artist in particular, it allows the reader to follow his remarkable artistic journey which inevitably intertwines with the history of his own country. To help the reader contextualise this achievement an easy reference timeline is provided at the end of the book.
A secondary but no less important aspect of this book is that it showcases how humanistic and artistic ideals will inevitably flourish in a society dedicated to peace.
This book is the culmination of five years of research in various archives, museums and private collections in Venice, Paris, Lisbon, Dublin, London, Washington DC, Doha, Al Khobar and Bahrain.
